So, who am I?
I have had an ongoing battle with anxiety and depression for the entirety of my life.
I was also diagnosed with ADHD 18months ago (like so many older women out there!). That came as a shock and a relief; I’m not actually useless! It’s just my brain doesn’t sit still long enough if I’m not interested in something. It did explain why I flooded the kitchen when I was hyper focussed on making some art, oops!
I’m also in menopause (yay!) and that adds a fun spicy nuance to my brain function.
I suffer from Complex PTSD – plenty of past traumas, whoopdidoo!
So, these are the parts of me I can describe and label but that’s not all I am! I’m a wise crone, lots of life experience (good and bad) and I’m still here! I’m not out to ‘fix’ anyone but to offer a lighter connection, with humour and whimsy using a compassionate and empathic style.
On my You Tube channel, I share how I create art journal pages, how to use colour magic, such as a purple page you can meditate with for higher insight or just a picture I want to do. My mind is always having new ideas, which is the most positive part of ADHD. Let’s not talk about the negative sides, not now anyway.
I love colours, especially in a rainbow, hence the name. The magic of a rainbow across the sky has caught the imagination of people and societies for millennia and I am still in awe of them. Ancient societies referred to the rainbow in their origin stories for example the rainbow serpent from the Australian Aboriginal culture, who is a creating God.
Rainbow’s have significant meanings in many cultures, including the obvious chakras, the spinning disks of energy throughout the body, part of the inner traditions of Hinduism and Buddhism. These are now widely used in the western cultures and spiritual practices. Of course, there is the flood story, which ends in the rainbow across the sky, bringing hope to the world.
Colours are everywhere we look, and strong belief systems have associations with each colour. As a western person, my cultural belief has led me to associate red with either danger or love. Whereas eastern cultures see red as the colour of prosperity, happiness and celebrations.
Exploring the depth of meaning to colours means we can use them to enhance our everyday life; have an intimidating meeting? Wear red for passion and fire. Wear pink as a sign of playfulness, warmth and comfort. Feeling irritated or agitated, incorporate blue as a calming feeling.
By the way, none of this is new 😊and I’m totally aware of that, but I feel strongly it is worth reminding ourselves of all the power we can get from colours, oh, and let’s have some FUN!!!
My art doesn’t take itself too seriously, but it still maintains meaning. I look at artists’ work all the time and how they interpret the world around them is incredible. I want to show you we can also interpret deeper and perhaps darker subjects, with a lighter tone. Let’s have a great time and I’m looking forward to getting to know you. Jump on in, the water’s fine!!!
